Skills And Aptitudes :

I take particular pride in having a mixture of artistic ( Fine art -Painting- and photography) and also technical (Digital Effects and Computer animation) skills, with training to MA level. I enjoy developing work to a high level of photo-realism combining  the most advanced lighting – rendering and compositing techniques to date in visual FX.

A sophisticated eye for detail, understanding of colour, mood and composition ( I am a practicing Painter and photographer).

I have had  a very rich professional career extending now 14 years in which I have worked in some of the most important visual FX facilities in the world like ( Double Negative -London-, Motion Picture Company – Vancouver-, Industrial Light and Magic – Vancouver and Keystone entertainment – Vancouver-Zoic Studios – Vancouver , Rock Hunter -London- (Architectural Visualization).

(1992 – 2002) Professional Artist – Painter –

Before starting my formal education in Animation and

effects I worked as a professional artist, and during that

time I made a number of exhibitions and participated in

various artistic projects. A google search of my name

( Mauricio Villamil) would bring up links to web-based

galleries that still show my work and C.V. as an artist.

I have carried working on my art, but currently I am

more interested in exploring the use of cutting edge

technology in particular Robotics, cybernetics,

programming, neural networks and artificial evolution

as medium to producing art pieces.

Visiting Tutor ( Digital Animation Techniques)

Arts University College Bournemouth.

Delivering a Maya (3D Animation & Effects) ABC

course for the Digital Media Production Fda, at the Arts

University College Bournemouth, and as a freelance

producing 3D Architectural Visualizations Using a

complete 3D Visual Effects pipeline.

My advanced skills working with the Unix / Linux

operating system led me to take an active role in the

implementation and development of the Digital Effects

Suite at the Arts University College Bournemouth for

the Animation course ( which up to that moment was a

purely traditionally based animation course). As such I

took part developing the Linux based animation suite:

Linux server and client work-stations, user account

administration, installation and update of Linux

operating systems and animation software, set-up,

configuration and servicing of the animation

Renderfarm, assistance and demonstration to students

and staff on the use of 3D animation software (Maya),

Camera tracking (3D tracking) PFTrack, and

compositing software (Shake), as well as advice in

advanced working techniques as acquired on my

industry experience in the digital effects industry.

Delivery of talks, workshops, production of

handouts, user guides. Assisting students with their

animation projects making them aware of

contemporary and up to date digital effects

techniques. Participating in group presentations,

evaluations and critical appraisals of student

productions.

Interest and hobbies : Robotics, chess, lately I have been researching into the

creative capabilities of real-time animation / film making

production, best known as “Machinima”. Using a game

engine to produce animated films in real time. Most

recently I have started working with the Unity and Unity

Iphone development kits learning to design my own

games.
